Eight Heads

Mr. Hunter felt a kinship with these Heads of the Kings of Judah when he encountered them at the Musée National du Moyen Age
(aka the Musée de Cluny) in Paris.

The statues of the Kings of Judah were displayed on the facade of Notre Dame Cathedral until 1793 and the French Revolution.  These particular fragments were unearthed in 1977 during some construction in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.

The Cluny web site tells how the original statues had been sold to a builder after they'd been dismantled, but that the heads had later been purchased and "buried with respect" in 1796.

Easter Island via London, England

Mr. Hunter always thought that he'd have to trek all the way to Easter Island in order to see and pose with those famous stone figures (moai).

But we were in London recently and making a quick visit to the British Museum, and who should we encounter but one of the genuine Easter Island statues!  This particular moai is called Hoa Hakananai'a, which, according to the museum, means "stolen or hidden friend."

From the side, these guys do have a lot in common!

The room where Hoa Hakananai now lives.

A moment of destiny for Mr. Hunter.

I wonder if one day Mr. Hunter will get to Easter Island...
Certainly he'd feel right at home among all those other carved heads and torsos!
This first taste of true Rapa Nui has been a good start.

Where in the world is Mr. Hunter? The answer (Lighthouse edition)

Where was Mr. Hunter when he decided to work as a lighthouse keeper?

Mr. H was in Maine,
enjoying the view at the Cape Neddick Lighthouse (aka "Nubble").
The basket Mr. Hunter has climbed into is--you guessed it!--the way that Nubble lighthouse keepers would cross over to the island.

Mr. Hunter Would Just as Soon Pose with a Wookiee

Flat Mr. Hunter encountered a big walking carpet when he went to see Star Wars in Concert.
It was the official Chewbacca costume!

The Magic Broom

Mr. Hunter and I still find this Magic Broom statue to be utterly pleasing.
