Mr. Hunter and the Goddess Hathor

Some statues emanate particularly pleasing energy.  In the past, Mr. Hunter and I have been enraptured, transfixed, and transported by the truly lovely Venus de Milo and Michelangelo's astonishing David.

After a much too short visit to the British Museum, we're adding this head and torso of the goddess Hathor to that list.  This smiling Hathor figure comes from the Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III.

Mr. Hunter and I weren't the only ones to fall under the spell of Hathor.  The woman in this photograph below stood and meditated in front of Hathor for at least half an hour.

The woman who was entranced by Hathor.

Mogwai

Caring for a Mr. Hunter has its advantages compared to the care of Mogwai.
For example, Mr. Hunter is perfectly fine when exposed to bright sunlight.  He can also bear getting wet once in awhile.  And as for feeding him after midnight... well, Mr. Hunter doesn't eat.

(Side note: isn't it always after midnight, technically?)

The British Museum

We hurried over to the British Museum on a night when it was open late.

I would like to note that combining the word "hurry" with a visit to the British Museum may set you up for a bit of frustration.  Of course there is so much to see.  I think we had about an hour to scoot around in hopes of seeing some of the highlights at least.  Mr. Hunter and I must go back so that we can explore, absorb, and admire.

Hard & Nutty at Fortnum & Mason

Mr. Hunter didn't take tea when he stopped at Fortnum & Mason, but he did get a kick out of the name for these nutty and likely chewy chocolates.  If Mr. Hunter could eat chocolates, this is one box he would buy.

See more about the Superb Hard and Nutty Selection
on Fortnum & Mason's web site.

"The English, being a stoic kind of people, have always been keen on their nuts and hard centres. This selection of nuts, caramels and other substantial centres will keep the staunchest chewer happy."

His Dark Materials

Mr. Hunter isn't sure just what kind of creature his daemon would be, but he's still a fan of The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman.  Here's a stack of the book featuring its original U.K. title: Northern Lights.

Carnaby Street

We stepped out of Liberty and wandered down Carnaby Street, a famous shopping street.  While we grabbed a quick snack at (you guessed it) Pret a Manger, we noticed groups of people in costume.  Apparently there was some sort of Friday evening scavenger hunt party going on.

We found Waldo.
He was busking on Carnaby Street with a band called The Cash Cows.

A group of scavenger hunters
who were dressed as the Pink Ladies.
Or do they look too pure to be pink?

Team Gold showed up and consulted with The Cash Cows.

At Liberty

Mr. Hunter went shopping at Liberty, the Regent Street department store founded in 1875 and famed for its Liberty Prints.

Totoro, Totoro, Totoro, and Mr. Hunter

Mr. Hunter has spent time with Totoro before, but on the shelves of Magma Books in London he found himself encircled by Totoro, Chu Totoro, and even a couple of Chibi Totoros.

They also sold Moomin-themed items!

People I Have Asked: The Jamie's Italian Waiter

Our waiter at Jamie's Italian (on the first night we ate there) thought it would be appropriate for him to pose with Mr. Hunter at the nearby meat counter.

Mr. Hunter Recommends... Jamie's Italian

If you're lucky enough to be in the West End of London and contemplating what to eat for lunch or dinner, Mr. Hunter would like to suggest (with some longing) that you check out Jamie's Italian on Upper St. Martin's Lane in London.
