The Everlasting Why

Flat Mr. Hunter was flat-out tickled to find this cucumber in the shape of a question mark at the farmer's market the other day.  Fans of the film A Room with a View might understand his excitement.

"Make my boy realize that, at the side of the everlasting "why,"
there is a "yes." And a "yes" and a "yes!"
(one of Mr. Emerson's immortal lines from the delicious 1985 film A Room with a View,
screenplay adaptation by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala)

Mr. Hunter Is a Wild One

Mr. Hunter took a walk on the wild side when he hung out at the Hollister Bike Rally.  A 1947 biker street party in Hollister inspired the Marlon Brando movie, The Wild One.

"What are you rebelling against, Mr. Hunter?"
"Whaddya got?"

Motorcycle rally style.

Mogwai

Caring for a Mr. Hunter has its advantages compared to the care of Mogwai.
For example, Mr. Hunter is perfectly fine when exposed to bright sunlight.  He can also bear getting wet once in awhile.  And as for feeding him after midnight... well, Mr. Hunter doesn't eat.

(Side note: isn't it always after midnight, technically?)

Totoro, Totoro, Totoro, and Mr. Hunter

Mr. Hunter has spent time with Totoro before, but on the shelves of Magma Books in London he found himself encircled by Totoro, Chu Totoro, and even a couple of Chibi Totoros.

They also sold Moomin-themed items!

Poor Unfortunate Souls

Mr. Hunter doesn't look as if he feels particularly unfotunate, even if he has found himself in the hands of Ursula, the sea witch who sings "Poor Unfortunate Souls" in The Little Mermaid and then tricks Ariel into giving up her voice.

If Mr. Hunter made any deals with Ursula when he met her, he's not talking!

Love those Howard Ashman lyrics!

La Belle et la Bête

It's been twenty years since Disney's Beauty and the Beast was released.

Mr. Hunter and the Beast's enchanted rose.

The torn portrait.

I still remember going to see Beauty and the Beast with my best friend.  I remember the wondrous feeling of adventure and sadness during the prologue, the feeling that this could be something special.

And I remember cracking up during the "Gaston" song.  Howard Ashman lyrics can be so astonishing; I grieve that we lost him so soon.

Mr. Hunter Would Just as Soon Pose with a Wookiee

Flat Mr. Hunter encountered a big walking carpet when he went to see Star Wars in Concert.
It was the official Chewbacca costume!

Comic-Con 2011: Indiana Jones Costume

Flat Mr. Hunter was on hand when Mike ran into a guy dressed as Indiana Jones, and then who should show up but the woman who designed the classic Indy look: costume designer Deborah Nadoolman.  She also designed costumes for Animal House, The Blues Brothers, and Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video.

"Indiana Jones" shows off a precious artifact he discovered...

Cool!

Comic-Con 2011: Back to the Future Costumes

Flat Mr. Hunter's caretaker has a special connection to the movie, Back to the Future.

In fact, seeing these shirts from Back to the Future II reminds yours truly of getting to hang out in the costume trailer of the original Back to the Future, where her aunt the costumer was prepping Doc Brown's shirt and "torn" pants for that day's shoot, which included some close-up shots of Doc as he "dangled" from the face of the Clock Tower.

Mr. Hunter's caretaker still regrets that she wasn't in the habit of taking photos with Mr. H at that time.  Oh, well!  Here's a little Back to the Future costume action to make up for it!

Comic-Con 2011: Star Wars Costumes

I suppose no Comic-Con experience would be complete without photos of women dressed up in Slave Princess Leia costumes...

Flat Mr. Hunter is positively glowing to be surrounded by such company.
(And is it just me, or does the middle girl look a bit like Martha Quinn?)

Suited up for an X-Wing mission.

Flat Mr. Hunter has taken over the Empire, apparently.

Comic-Con Figurines

Flat Mr. Hunter enjoyed posing with some of his favorite movie characters,
most especially Indiana Jones.

A Paramount Picture

Mr. Hunter stopped by the side of the Kuhio Highway in Kauai so that he could pose with the Kalalea Mountain, which was featured in the opening of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Kalalea Mountain is also famous for its resemblance to King Kong's profile.
It's funny; back when I took this picture I couldn't really see the King Kong profile, but now it seems pretty clear to me.  (Look at the left side of the mountain.)

June 12 marks the 30th anniversary of the premiere Raiders of the Lost Ark.  (Thirty years!!)

Here's a blog entry about this "Paramount Peak" from an Indiana Jones fan page.  Here's a discussion of the opening shots from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Yub Nub

My Flat Mr. Hunter encountered a pair of Ewoks when he was visiting the forest moon of Endor.  No, wait.  He was at Star Wars in Concert.
The Ewoks had traveled to Earth to tour with an orchestra and many notable Star Wars costumes.

Does the expression in the eyes of the Ewok on the left fill you with dread?
Or perhaps these two critters have inspired you to start singing the original "Ewok Celebration" song from Return of the Jedi.

Celebrate the love!

Hall of Fame: Hulk Hands

Huw always comes up with notable Mr. Hunter poses.

You can see that Mr. H feels perfectly relaxed,
even though he's cradled in the hands of the Incredible Hulk.

Mr. Potatohead

At Disney's California Adventure, there's a super-fun (and super-popular) ride called Toy Story Midway Mania.  The lines are usually long, but it's one of those rides that's worth the wait.

Here's Mr. Hunter with the boardwalk barker, Mr. Potatohead.

The Incredibles

An utterly satisfactory moment for Mr. Hunter.  We ran into Mr. and Mrs. Incredible outside the Animation Station at Disney's California Adventure.
