Roman Landmarks: the Trevi Fountain

Flat Mr. Hunter had visited the Trevi Fountain with Steve in 2006.
Two years later, it was the real Mr. Hunter's turn to check out the scene.

The Trevi Fountain on a summer afternoon: crowded with tourists.

This carabiniere kept her eye out for tourists who succumbed to the urge to take a dip in the fountain.

The classic tourist pose at Trevi is to be captured while you're throwing a coin over your shoulder and making a wish.  Here's a tourist in action:

Where in the world is Mr. Hunter? The answer

Where was Mr. Hunter when the extraordinary faces on this fountain caught his eye?

In the Piazza della Rotonda beside the Pantheon, in Rome, Italy!

This critter always reminds me of the virasana pose in yoga.

"RRRR!"

Mr. Hunter was fascinated by the faces carved on this fountain.
Where might Mr. Hunter be?

Bocca della Verità

Mr. Hunter has no hands to put into the Mouth of Truth,
but he's a big fan of Roman Holiday.

Mr. Hunter, Archaeologist

Mr. Hunter checked out some of the fragments of Roman ruins as he toured Palatine Hill.

More postcards from Ancient Rome

On his first day in Rome, when he was still quite jet-lagged, Mr. Hunter toured Palatine Hill.

This is just past the entrance -- I think those buildings might include the Baths of Septimius Severus.

Those cool tall trees are Stone Pine trees, aka Umbrella Pine trees.
You see them in a lot of places in Rome.

Mr. H poses with the Stadium of Domitian.

More of the stadium.  And that might be a bit of Domus Augustana (House of Augustus) in the background.

Here's a map of Palatine Hill.

Postcards from Ancient Rome

In 2008, the real Mr. Hunter visited Italy for the first time.
First stop: Rome

Naturally, he was thrilled to strike up a classic touristy pose in front of the Colosseum.
